Utah Parks and then Grand Canyon late May

We will be visiting Arches, Canyonlands and then Bryce and Zion last two weeks of May. We would like to conclude our trip with a visit to the Grand Canyon before driving back to North Carolina. My wife and I have visited the south rim about 30 years ago. Our 15 year old son has never seen the Grand Canyon. Would the experts recommend that we visit the North Rim and then head for home or should we drive around to the South Rim. We will have a travel trailer for lodging. According to Google the mileage is less to vist the North Rim but the travel time is the same whether we visit the North or South Rim. Thanks.

Both the rims are stupendously overwhelming. I recommend the south rim there as getting a space for camping is much better. You should make a reservation for that. We did that last May, early in May, and got one of two or three spaces still vacant when we arrived at the canyon. Even though you've been there before, it'll be unforgettable - also for your son. There are also more food/dining options and stores at the south rim.

Definitely reserve your camping space at all of the destinations or be prepared to drive long distances to find a place.

GCNP North rim is more along your route, but I agree that the south rim has way more to see and do and is easier to get around.

As other experts have suggested, North rim would be more on-the-way than south rim (depends upon where you're heading). But, considering your teenager son visiting GC first time, South rim is better choice. Keep in mind that, the memorial day weekend would be very crowded in South rim.

'Crowded' usually involves the rim trial right by the lodges in the Villages, as well as the largest viewpoints ... if you move away from that, laterally along the rim in either directions, you'll still have sections between viewpoints more or less to yourself. Especially along te western part of the rim trail (Hermits Trail), you have a path all the way, sometimes close to the rim, sometimes in the trees, and it's gorgeous. It's always well worth walking between two or more of the viewpoints there.
