One day trip to Grand Canyon

I alongwith a bunch of 4 other guys (all young and fit ;) are planning to visit the Grand Canyon sometime around the end of December. We will be reaching there in the morning and will stay there overnight. What I would like to know is -

a. How is the weather around that time of the year at the GC?

b. What itinerary would you suggest for a one day trip ?

c. For the overnight stay, how feasible is it to camp in the winter? What other options are available for

spending the night over there?

1. Re: One day trip to Grand Canyon

I would like to address your email inre the Grand Canyon in Dec. The altitude there is about 7,500 ft. and you will experience winter conditions (snow, etc.) The temperature is warmer at the bottom though. If you have 2 days, hike down the south Kaibab trail as it's very scenic, although there's no water. You can spend the night at Phantom Ranch for a nominal fee and hike out the Bright Angel Trail the following day. Both days will be loooooong hiking days.
