time for Waterton?

We are going to GNP from Yellowstone & coming back through Mt. Rushmore on a 2 1/2 week roadtrip from Oklahoma. We have passports, but the kids passports will need to be renewed for travel in 2014. We will stay one night at Village Inn in Apgar and 3 nights at Swiftcurrent cabins. Is it worth it to take a day trip to Waterton? or just stay and enjoy our time around MG. We could stay one night at Waterton if needed, they have rooms available for us. At Many Glacier area, we will hike, but doubt we will take long hikes. Family of 5, kids will be 14, 13, 10 next summer. Google Maps shows it about 1 1/2 hour drive. Thought it might be cool for them to "visit" Canada.

I think the kids would think it's cool too. Just go for the day. No need to stay over night. You will love Prince of Wales hotel and there is a couple great short hikes. Bertha Falls and Red Rock Canyon. The boat ride on Waterton Lake is scenic and informative.

Agree, just go for the day. That way if you find you want to just stay in Many Glacier area and do more hiking there, you can change your mind about going to Waterton and not worry about having a room reserved. If you only have three nights at Swiftcurrent you may find more than enough to occupy you in that area.

Agree with the others. It's easier in my opinion to not pack and change rooms the additional time. take a day trip to CA and return to Many Glacier area.
