High Winds Forecast for Friday in GNP

The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Wind

Advisory... which is in effect from 3 am to 6 PM MDT Friday.

* Impacts/timing: westerly winds will be increasing Thursday night

before peaking during the day Friday. Outdoor enthusiasts should

be prepared for very windy conditions. In addition...

temperatures will struggle to make it out of the 40s in the

mountains... with only 50s at the lower elevations on Friday.

* Winds: west winds 15 to 25 mph are expected throughout the West

Glacier region. However... higher terrain sites will likely

experience wind gusts up to 50 mph. Logan Pass could see gusts

up to 70 mph.

* Locations impacted include... bad Rock Canyon... Essex... Marias

Pass... Polebridge

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds

this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high

profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

"Logan Pass could see gusts up to 70 mph"

That's almost Category 1 hurricane wind speed. I'd hate to be driving or hiking in that.

The winds started yesterday with gusts up to 50 mph at Logan and that is about what it felt like on Siyeh Pass.

The advisory has been upgraded to include a Winter Weather Warning with snow off up to 1 inch predicted above 7,000 feet.

Since my hike yesterday was above 8,000 feet I'm glad that i jumped in and did it yesterday. Siyeh Pass to Sunrift Gorge is becoming my favorite hike in the park.

My hike with my kids fell through again sorry to have missed the chance to do this hike with Mzambo and company.

This link to current weather at Logan Pass is working again it is

I saw Mzambo Monday, just after she and company had finished Siyeh Pass to Sunrift, they loved it!! I did the same hike about a week earlier and I too think it's one of my very favorite hikes... The meadow with the three lakes, just before you start up the switchbacks is a great place for lunch/rest and some solitude before you make the big climb... Great hike!
