December snorkeling/ocean conditions

I booked a trip after Christmas to visit the Dry Tortugas. HOwever I just read deeper into the park website and the weather page says the seas can be high, windy and visibility poor in the winter. Doesn't sound a like a winner to take my kids on! Have some of you visited off season? Thanks.

I just got back and the weather wasn't in our favor. The temps were nice but the wind made the water choppy and therefore visibility was limited. Not a great snorkel day, but a great trip anyway. If you are going off season, maybe they will be flexible with the reservation. The day before we got there, Tues Nov 6, the weather was perfect for snorkeling. The week before, the ferry didn't run, I was told, for four days. The ferry was half full when we went, and the people who work for it are great. Maybe if they are not full, you can ask them to be flexible.
