Denali jeep tours

Does anyone know anytjing about the jeep tours near Denali? I'm aware of the website, but wondering if the tours are actually any good? Do you see wildlife? Where do you go, etc.? Thanks -

I would recommend that you read the forum “Denali Bus Tour or Shuttle Bus?”. It will give you all the info that you’ll need.

Bus tours are not jeep tours!

I haven't been on the jeep tour, though I see them driving around lots during the summer. They mainly go up the Stampede road . . . you might see wildlife, but I think the Park will give you better/more opportunities to see wildlife. That area of the Stampede is actively used for hunting & trapping, so . . . .it's more whether you want to go on a jeep trip I think. :)

Thanks for the replies - we've decided to forego the jeep tours, and do one day on the bus tour to Kantishna, and another day on the park shuttle, maybe not going so far. Do you still need to get shuttle bus tickets ahead of time - before we get to Denali (mid-June)? Also, any other attractions in the area we should plan on as we have a third day there befoer moving on to Fairbanks - thanks!

Well, depends on what you would like to do - you could do a raft trip (Denali Outdoor Center), you could hike, take in the NPS doggie demo or go visit some of the local mushers that give dog tours, such as Ramy Brooks or Jeff King . . . lots to see and do. :)

Opps, knew I forgot something! Yes, it would be recommended to get your tickets ahead - it'll save you time, as June is busy and then it's one thing less to worry about. Good luck! :)

When getting our tickets last june for the shuttle bus we only had to wait in line for about 20 minutes, so getting them ahead of time would save you that time and stress, because there are several of the busses that sell out quick, specifically the longer ones. Other things to do, the Doggy Demo is DEFINITELY something good to see, if you like dogs. The dog sled tours are a bit pricey but also quite fun. I would not recommend the jeep tours (I know you already said you would forego them) because of the lack of wildlife seen. Another thing, if you can afford it, is to take a flight tour with K2 Aviation around Denali. The views that you have are ASTOUNDING and breathtaking. Makes for great pictures, although it will put you out as much as 150 per person, it is definitely worth it if you have the money.

Thanks so much, COalminer & Boatman, for the tips. The Jeff King tour sounds good, and I hadn;t really thought of a flight tour, but you make it sound like I should think about it! We are taking a flight to see the bears out of Anchorage, which is about $500 - don;t know if I can talk the others into another flight! I am planning this trip for myself and 2 couples , so I'm trying to please too many people!

Here's my plan so far - let me know what you think as it is still changeable-

6/8 - Fly to Anchorage (some from Denver, others LA) rent 2 cars & drive to Seward, staying at Alaska Saltwater Lodge

6/9 Tour Exit Glacier & Seaquarium

6/10 - Major Marine Tour of Kenai Fjords - the long tour

6/11 - Drive to Whittier for Glacier cruise w/Major Marine, then on to Anchorage, where we stay at ALaskan Leopard B&B

** - I just read about something online called the Whittier Walk thru the tunnel on 6/11 - know anything about this? DOes it shut down the road?

6/12 - Flight to see bears

6/13 - Train to Denali, stay at Lakeview Inn

6/14 - 16 - Stay in Denali - bus tours, etc

6/17 - Train to Fairbanks, stay at Dale & Jo's View Suites

6/18-19 - Activities in Fairbanks, then home

Thanks again for the input!
