Death Valley story in S.F. paper

The San Francisco Chronicle travel section had a story about Death Valley today. Not very detailed, pretty superficial (somehow Dante's View and Rhyolite weren't mentioned, let alone Titus Canyon). The author could have written it sitting on the can with a few books or park guides stacked on the edge of the bathtub (I could have written it sitting on the can, period).

But it's a nice appetizer. If folks want to know more, ask away and the many DV enthusiasts here will be happy to respond.

Thanks for sharing but I agree Frisco Roadrunner - You definitely have much more insight and writing ability than the Chronicle Writer.

Best to you Frisco Roadrunner - and look forward to reading many more of your insightful posts in 2009.

Happy new year to you too, mini--and happy lunar new year as well (tomorrow).

I enjoy reading your contributions as well. Being a destination expert is probably a lot tougher for San Francisco than for Death Valley. :)

At least the author has a nice writing style and didn't make any flat-out errors. But odd indeed that Dante's, Ryholite and Titus were not included. Not to mention Mosaic Canyon (so much for such little effort!) and Golden Canyon and Salt Creek and the pupfish. Oh well as you said FRR perhaps it will entice some to learn more. Thanks for sharing the link.

T2E :-)

An appetizer it is.To go to 20-mule-team-canyon and not continue on a few more miles to Dante's View is mindboggling.IMO much to see in DV but to leave out Dante's View unreal.

WE were here for the second time in Sep and had the misfortunate of not being able to see Dantes View due to road construction during the day..

Had 2 fabulous days here and also enjoyed the visit to the ghost town of Rhyolite.

But.....left with an empty feeling for not being able to enjoy the SPECTACULAR view from Dante's View...But mabe next time...
