Itinerary advice

Hi there, Having done GC & Moab it's time to hit other areas of S Utah. We have 6+ days this week into next. Flying into/out of Vegas. We are seasoned long distance drivers so that is no prob. Trip is for scenery & pics. Not much of hiking though we can for worthy reasons.

Thur...Arrive LV 5PM drive to Zion & stay Hurricane

Fri...Zion then up to Bryce to spend night

Sat...Bryce then up to Escalante for night

Sun...Escalante & spend night

Mon...Coral Reef (?) & then to Mexican Hat

Tue...Monument Valley & spend night MH

Wed...drive back to LV for red eye

Having already done Canyonlands & Arches is any of this too redundant of others? Is Coral Reef worth the time or should that time be spent extending other places. Thanks in advance.

I think you mean Capitol Reef (there is also Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, but that is the other direction to which you are heading).

Do you have lodging booked at each of these locations? From the way this reads you will be traveling over the holiday weekend. Hotels will be hard to come by, I reckon. Is that why you ar staying at Hurricane instead of Springdale? IF you can get a room in Springdale, do so as it will reduce your travel time to Zion.

What are your plans for Excalante?

Maybe after Monument Valley, head over to Page rather than return to Mexican Hat. That will give you a little time to explore around Page and greatly reduce your return drive to LV.

Capitol Reef...oops. Yes. Have looked into hotels and there r in most places (Hurricane & Spring...Escalante...Mex Hat). If a problem with that we're good at winging it. Have done Page and that whole area so need to return.

Zion is a park that could use more time. So you have either been there before, or you should plan on returning in the future, because you are not even devoting a full day to this park.

Escalante, you must have a plan for this area, as you have a full day devoted here by your schedule. Hole in the Rock road is good to explore if you have a suitable vehicle. There are plenty of hiking opportunities along this stretch.

If you are not hikers, but just want to see the scenery, I suggest you move up to Torrey for Sunday night.

Definitely a lot of driving. And if you don't have hotel bookings, you could be in a pinch as this is a major holiday weekend. In most of the areas you're visiting, there aren't options to wing it. So keep that in mind. Most notable probably is Escalante where there really is no alternative lodging within an hour or more.

For sure the drive up route 12 from Bryce to Escalante to Boulder and on to Torrey is magnificent. That does take you the wrong direction for what you're trying to do. Given that you're not into hiking, two nights in Escalante is a lot. I would put one more into Zion. And do try to stay in Springdale as suggested rather than Hurricane.

Have fun.
