San Alfonso del Mar is a private condominium and I believe all construction has been completed. The company that designed it has become internationally advising of the building of similar complexes in many parts of the world.

There are a number of buildings, and you can rent from the property management company or from owners privately (rates vary tremendously). Each building has a smaller graded saltwater pool that accesses the lagoon, which stretches across the entire complex. There is also a pyramid that encloses a heated saltwater pool. The indoor pool has a small "swim through" access that you can pass through to get to the outdoor portion. For my taste, its a bit humid and hot inside the pyramid but the heated outdoor pool portion is nice, especially at night. Just a note that you have to wear a swim cap in the heated pool, no exceptions.

There are also a number of quality restaurants in the complex, but they are only open during the high season - mid December to mid February, so that's the best time to go. Sadly, the sushi restaurant shut down over a year ago and hasn't reopened. The subterranean restaurant has a very cool aquarium that kids seem to love, with a good variety of sharks, eels, and fishies, and the food is ok (not the best, but definitely reliable pub type food). The restaurants in town are pretty good too, if you don't mind the 10-15 minute walk, and there is a grocery store (and discoteca/nightclub) across the highway. If you want a bigger grocery store with more selection, there is a "Lider" grocery store about a 5 minute drive away too.

As for activities - they have a TON. You just have to look up the message boards at the lobby level of each building - yoga, swim instruction, kayaking, zumba, etc. and sign up early or show up for the drop in ones. There are outdoor movie screenings for kids on the far side of the complex, and they sometimes set up laser tag (for a fee) and I believe there is babysitting/kids club activities as well.

Access to the beach/ocean is through one exit only and they give you a return ticket to re-enter but they close that entrance at nightfall. At night you have to go through the main entrance to enter/exit and cannot walk around the entire lagoon as they have safety concerns when they can't see who is walking around there. Security is great as they have guards walking around the complex 24 hours a day.
