Best town near Bordeaux to stay on the way to Sarlat?

We will be flying overnight to Paris and taking the TGV to Bordeaux, where we will pick up a rental car and head to Perigord. We don't want to drive on through the same day -- will be too sleepy and jet lagged.

I've read some of the posts and it looks like (1) driving in Bordeaux is challenging, and (2) the neighborhood by the train station is dicey. What are some towns not too far out of Bordeaux that would be nice places to stop for a night before we head to Sarlat?

Please disregard....I didn't look carefully enough at the drop down menu. I did not know there was a city named Bourdeaux. My mistake!

Check out St Emilion. Lots going for it, a large number of good places to stay and it is not far from Bordeaux.

The area around Bordeaux station has been really upgraded, in fact there is still some work continuing.
