1st timer

Hi, just wondering if Chalong has lovely beaches and much choice in accommodation? Or is it only a place to go for getting on to boats etcs.,? We will be there in May. Cheers!

Beaches in Chalong are certainly not as nice as Kata, Karon, Rawai and Kamala. I would not recommend a stay in Chalong.

Thanks for the info. So are the beaches nice at Rawai in May? Also can you suggest some accommodation on the beach front that costs up to $50Aud per night? Thanks

Baan Krating resort in Rawai is nice and quiet. Get a moped and look around its great fun and the monks nearby love a chat to farangs.Chalong is a great spot if you like a fun drink with good music and people that dont want to rip you off like Patong.

The beach in rawai is good with fresh seafood there.

However at night go past the zoo in Chalong and visit the seafood restaurants on the waterfront for great service and cheap food.

The beaches at Chalong and Rawai are on the leeward side of the Andaman sea, and as such are sheltered. The water is shallow, so at low tide its more like mud flats.

I LOVE Rawai ... great restaurants and Nai Harn Beach not too far along is a great swimming beach ... deck chairs and umbrellas for a few baht... Lay back enjoy a cocktail (or mocktail). Rawai good location for Promthep Cape (sunset) and markets as well. You are never far away from anything in Phuket! Would recommend Friendship Beach Resort (quiet bohemian waterfront restaurant with fab food) ... if you don't like the moped suggestion, cabs are cheap! Have fun you will love this area.
