Departure Tax

Hi Can anyone answer me the question regarding departure tax.

We went to Mexico in September with BA and didnt pay any departure tax when leaving Cancun. Is this something that has just recently been introduced or do BA include it in their fare?

Also exactly how much is it and what currency is the best to pay?

Any advice would be appreciated .

1. Re: Departure Tax

BA and Virgin include the tax in the price of the ticket. Charter airlines, such as Thomsons and Thomas Cook don't, so you have to pay it separately.

The tax is currently 800 pesos per person. You can pay in sterling too - it's 45 pounds. If you do the math, you'll realise that you can save about 5 quid per person if you pay in pesos. Sometimes you can pay the tax in US dollars and sometimes you can't, so it's probably best not to rely on that.

Edited to add: for anyone from Canada or the US reading this, the tax is always included in our ticket price, whether we're flying charter or otherwise.
