We are going on the 22nd. Could you update us on the hotel? I have only seen a few reviews so far.

Definitely not a 5 stars more likely like a 3 stars - there are good things about it, but in our experience we saw some drawbacks - very cheap construction, prefab with no insulation, you can hear your neighbors across the wall. Very noisy and very loud till late at night. No shows only loud electric guitar and drums making your windows rattle. We saw a daily increase from the local Hispanic population, which brought more noise day and night. We met many Riu fans who have been at other Riu hotels and they were all disappointing - "we are not coming here again" -many said - this is a "budget Riu" for those who are looking for low cost and cheap resorts..

The staff is all new, most of them do not speak a word in English. Translators are in the reception area. There is no coffee or tea in the rooms, only hard liquor, beer and soda drinks. Plenty of food in the restaurant, some we liked other we could not eat it - be careful, we met a guy who got sick from food (that's what he says) and sat on the toilet seat most of his stay..There is nothing around for miles and miles so you are stuck inside the hotel.

What we really liked is the beach - nice white powdered sand - not many people swimming - from our 7 days we could only swim 3 days because of high waves - finally, I liked the price but we are not going back to this Riu, there are better places around Cancun close to everything and for the same money
