Things to do in Nai Yang?

What sort of things are there to do when staying in the Nai Yang area?

We are traveling to Phuket in April and are planning on staying in Nai Yang for the first part of our holiday.

My main aim is to relax on the beach and by the hotel pool but we will be traveling with our two young children, aged 8 and 6, and will also need to keep them entertained.

Are places like Splash Jungle, The Butterfly garden and the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project close enough to visit when staying in Nai Yang?

What else can we do while staying there?

Also, is there good places to eat as a family outside of the hotel restaurants?

Thank you

Along Nai Yang beach you have 30 or so beach restaurants where you can dine with your toes in the sand and watch the planes climb into the sky from the nearby airport. Phen's is our favorite just outside the Indigo Pearl exit. Great food and cheap too!

Hi

Yes Nai Yang is near the airport, but that never seems to impact on noise etc. Several shops and many restaurants on the beach.

Splash Jungle is north of Nai Yang and about 15mins away

The Butterfly garden is south and about 50 mins away

Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is south east and about 20mins away

As TravellingMitch said access to the places you want to see isn't a problem. The beach itself has plenty of places to eat and drink.Massages, foot massages on the beach etc. Nice to sit at the beach and watch the sunset into the ocean whilst having a cool drink & dinner. Kitesurfing is also popular there with several kitesurfing schools.

Not much in the way of underwater activities ie snorkeling as the beach can get quite dirty with litter washing up. The seas can become rough at times when the wind picks up.There is a national park quite by to. We stayed at the Indigo Pearl and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Nai Yang Beach.

We had a great time at Dewa Phuket in Nov, especially having dinner on the beach watching people set off chinese lanterns & watch them disappear into the sky, very relaxing!

Plenty of beach side eating places as the previous posts stated. There is a market in the afternoon which is interesting to walk through, it's walking distance. Hire a motorbike, the traffic is fairly good so it is a lot safer then the bigger cities. We stay at Nai Yang at the end of our trip every time we go to Phuket as it tops off the end of the trip with a nice relaxing couple of days and close to the airport.

"Hire a motorbike, the traffic is fairly good so it is a lot safer then the bigger cities" - I hope you don't mean "Thai style" with a 6 year old and 8 year old on board with 2 adults. Motor cycle accidents are the biggest cause of fatalities on the roads in Thailand often involving foreigners who don't have a licence in their own country, no International Driving Permit and so no insurance - none comes with the bike! Hire a small car if you want to get about. You can get one with full insurance for 600-800 baht, safer and more comfortable and at Nai Yang it is easy and enjoyable to drive off Phuket Island and see some of the real Thailand on the mainland. Khao Lak and Phang Nga Bay are only an hour or so by car, Krabi no more than 2 hours.

Tiger Kingdom is closer to Patong, so if you are going to Patong save it for then. There is a great little restaurant called Naiyang Park Restaurant, it's a little bit away from the beach side restaurants but is cheaper and nicer food. If you travel away from the main shop/restaurant area with the water on your left you will hit the National Park, it's about another 100 metres on the right in the National Park. Food is excellent and there is chicken nuggets and stuff like that for the kids.
