Hi,

I saw several posts seeking advice on where to get SA souvenirs. Can I check if its recommended to buy them in Johanneburg or Kruger park on the basis of price and variety.

it depends where

in the tourist traps you're gonna pay more

on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere you'll generally do better

Similar to Bee Cheng Hiang, but dryer and much less sweet, there is a wild variety of biltong, which is a 'jerky' style meat that is commonly consumed in South Africa. You can find it everywhere and its very good. Might want to bring some of that back as well as some of the hotter sauces like Peri Peri if you like preparing some spicier and hotter foods back home. Both of these can be bought pretty much anywhere, including the O R Tambo airport in J'burg if you have left over Rand at the end of your trip.

Have a great trip to South Africa.

The selection at Joburg airport is excellent. The prices were reasonable. Best though is to look for real crafts shops OR the flea market near the Hyatt Hotel north of Jo'burg. That flea market is the best I have every been to. Look for any shop that sells Carol Boyes. That's a sign of quality. This presumes you do not want really cheap, mass production stuff.

Before you buy wood carving do make sure you can bring this back into Singapore. Should be ok but best to check with local customs allowances first.

bracelets, perhaps more user frriendly items would candles, cutlery and crockery that are designed and made in africa, theres also carpets made of animal hide, wooden animal sculptures etc...

visit the craft market in rosebank.. if you are visiting kruger park(mpumalanga) - this is where most safari's are, the same traditional african items will be much cheaper and authentic as the craft market does charge a premium! the craft market is in the ROSEBANK shopping mall, anyone and everyone can direct you here, from the airport your best bet is to use the gautrain as they have a stop at the mall. the craftmarket is open 7 days a week and the sunday rooftop market is open on sundays. visit rosebank anyway, there cool restaurants.

goodluck.
