Hidden secrets...

Looking forward to our first visit to Corfu in mid September & have made notes of the island highlights/must see's, but wondered if there is anywhere really special (a view/taverna/village/beach etc) that we shouldn't miss out on while we're there.

Also, as we love sea swimming (calm waters/not too keen on busy beaches) & will have transport to get around, we'd love to hear about any little coves or relatively quiet scenic beaches that we could visit en route during our days out & don't mind going off 'the beaten track' to find them. Posts seem to suggest that best beaches are on the east of the island, but we'd welcome any input/suggestions or recommendations from regulars or residents.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Plenty of 'views' to satisfy everyone........if I was to suggest a must see it would be a visit to Golden Fox above Paleokastrista. Excellent viewpoint with a pool open to the public....taverna & poolside bar.

Hey, if you have a car you should definately take a trip to Ericousa island if unspoiled beaches are what you want. Me and a friend visited just a few days ago, it was the best sandy beaches i found in North Corfu. You can get the Local boat from Sidari on Wednesdays or Saturday and Sundays. We bought our tickets from a local travel agent, Corfiot Tours on the start of the main street in Sidari, It took us only one hour on the boat and we got 4 hours on the island. The sea was so clear and the beaches so clean and it wasn't jam packed like a lot of the other beaches we visited. There was some little walking trails too to the helicopter pad and to a light house, but we didn't make it that far it was far too hot! haha. And on the way back the captain slowed right down and came close to the coastline so we could sea all the canal d'amour beaches and caves from the boat and take pictures. It was the best day of our holiday. Highly recommend it if you get chance. Paleokastritsa was nice too, stoney beaches and very clear sea! have a lovely time in Corfu, hope this helps

The east has some pretty pebbly beaches but in my opinion the best sandy ones are on the west coast either south or north west.

The north-west coast is very beautiful (Paleokastritsa has already been mentioned) and a trip taking in the coastal resorts of Agios Georgios north, Arillas and Agios Stefanos NW should be put at the top of your agenda.

No visit to Corfu, when transport is available, is complete without visiting the lovely little village of Afionas (between Agios Georgios north and Arillas) positioned high on a headland with stunning views both northwards and southwards. (http://www.agiosgeorgios.co.uk/afionas1.htm)

Park your car in the main street (dead end) and walk on through the village to Dionysos taverna or Porto Timoni Cafe for a lunch overlooking the turquoise water of Agios Georgios bay.

Further north the spectacular cliffs on Corfu's north-western extremity at Peroulades well deserves a visit too.

Thanks for the above suggestions. North it is - most definitely! Looks gorgeous...

The island trip has never popped up before and that sounds like a great day so that has also been added to the list. I have a funny feeling we may end up having to have another holiday here!

All we need now is for the weather to hold.......

Ericousa island is gorgeous. The sea is clear. Couple of tavernas and a mini market. Island walks. We just lay on the beach and ate and drank. Wish it had been longer.

I second Loopi's suggestion - wonderful restaraunt and breathtaking views ! The coast running East from (and including) Kassiopi is just wonderful. Hire a boat in Kassiopi for the day and turn right out if the harbour, tiny coves, crystal water, Koloura, kKalami, Agios Stephanos ... All stunning. Have a wonderful holiday x
