I don't know the taxi prices but Georgiopoulis sits right on the main north coast bus route that links Iraklion - Rethymno - Chania with buses every hour each way or so from early until 2200-ish. Your call of course, but it's much more enjoyable to go on the bus, and they are all comfortable, air-conditioned coaches anyway
Thanks, will definitely do both on the bus. We were thinking of having a night out (only dinner & few drinks) and on the smaller islands buses seem to stop early, I'll check it out when I'm there but if buses run till about 22:00 I'll be more than happy
Georgiopoulis is much closer to Rethymno so that would be the best bet for a night out. If you had a late one, you would need a taxi back to G but it's double the distance to Chania and therefore, double the taxi fare.
Just so you have an idea, the Chania to Rethymno buses ( which pick up and set down in G) depart Chania at 0530, then every hour on the half past till 1830, then 2000 and 2100. Buses from Rethymno back to Chania, which will set down in G, depart Rethymno at 0700, then every hour on the hour till 2000, then 2130 and last one at 2230.
From Georgioupoli to Argiroupoli, Kournas Lake, Episkopi, Lappa and Miriokefala. Here you can find so many good tavernas that you'll need none in the towns. Go to the cave of the bear in Episkopi, perfect place
Thanks for your help, will try these local tavernas - Only a week to go.
