Travelling from Sunshine Coast to Vancouver Airport

If we finish our vacation on the southern part of the Sunshine Coast, so we have only one ferry crossing to make, from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay, is it reasonable to feel comfortable about travelling on the same day as our flight home from Vancouver International airport at 9pm? We have been advised not to have a ferry crossing from Vancouver Island to the mainland on the same day as our 9pm flight.

9PM means inside the airport at 6PM, means Vancouver 4PMish.

Depending on the day of the week, week of the month, an "early" ferry reservation, yes, it is not too difficult and you will most likely still have time for a meal and to abandon the vehicle.

If you plan on an early ferry (10 am) then you should be ok. A ferry is a ferry be it a short ride or a longer ride. Mechanical breakdown ,human breakdown ( someone recently jumped off a ferry meaning the ferry spent 5 hours looking for them..flights were missed by some people) Wind storms, boaters in need..all are things that rarely happen but they can and do impact travel.

Lots to see and do in Vancouver once you're back until you head to the airport.

The ferry is only 40 minutes from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay. There is usually a ferry every two hours. Driving by car or taking the bus you can easily make it to the Airport by 6pm for your 9pm flight. If you start early and have a reservation, you will have plenty of time to have lunch, see some of Vancouver, and make it to the Airport.

So, yes, just to reinforce what you are hearing, its doable, but don't take chances. If there are problems with the ferry crossing for some reason, you will need lots of time to sort it out. As you are on the Sunshine Coast, you don't really have a viable alternative for getting to the mainland if there is a problem with the ferry, so just get going early and get on the mainland side early in the day.
