Dazhai or Tiantouzhai

So we're still tossing up whether to stay at Wisdom Inn in Dazhai village or Jintian Guesthouse in Tiantouzhai village. We will be there for 2 nights, Sept 19-21. Of the two, which one has the best views? Which one is closer to the 3 viewpoints? Does anyone know how long of a walk it would be to visit the 3 viewpoints from Dazhai as well as from Tiantouzhai? About how big is each of the villages in terms of population? Any other tips or suggestions?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Wisdom Inn located the bottom of rice terraces, not much nice view, but it is convenience when you have lots of luggages.Jintian Guesthouse located the middle rice terraces, the view is nicer than Wisdom Inn.but you need hire porter to carry your luggages .

stay at the foot of the mountain and the middle top of the mountain and it is up to you.

if you want to a room with nice view of rice terraces, stay in jintian hotel is better.

Early June is one of the best time to visit rice terraces and you can see water in the rice terraces as well as the farmers working in it.

For 2 nights, I would highly recommend staying at Tiantouzhai village which is higher up the mountain and have much better views, you will save yourself a lot of legwork too. I stayed 2 nights at JinTian last week but there are also other resthouses there although JinTian will be better suited for English speaking guests as the lovely host can converse in that language. Time from JinTian to Viewpoint 1 (generally upward 30mins climb), Jin Tian to Viewpoint 2 (easy 20 mins), Jin Tian to Viewpoint 3 (more challanging 1.5 hrs undulating climb). You can also traverse between viewpoint 1 and viewpoint 3 at the upper ridge without going back to TianTouZhai hence can save yourself some breadth if you aren't into golden hours photography. JinTian has 2 buildings side by side and was fully booked by a HK photography enthusiast group the day I left.

Dazhai to Tiantouzhai is about 40-45 mins mostly uphill climb. I may be generalising this but you can do the maths for the viewpoints. I also came down to Dazhai on a lazy afternoon and visited Wisom Inn for a meal. It's a clean resthouse, more suited for foreign guests but pricey relative to it's neighbourhood. Room there is generally 3x more than those at Tiantouzhai and you will hardly find local tourists there.

There is lots of discussion and good advice online about where to stay at the rice terraces. We had chosen to stay at TianTouZhai village which is an uphill walk from Dazhai (no road up there). It sounded just what we wanted and we found it to be ...

Thank you all sooo much for your help and suggestions! It sounds like Tiantouzhai is exactly what we are looking for so hopefully we can get rooms booked at Jintian. We will hire porters for our luggage too.

Avonez, thank you so much for the details of all the viewpoints! Much appreciated!!

Can't wait!!

Got back Tuesday... stayed @ Wisdomm Inn.. the place is great.. Sandy (owner) is such an mazing host. polite and helpful.. the place is VERY VERYclean. nice room/view, huge bathroom.. very tasty breakfast

took us 4 hours to visit the rice fields. Wisdom Inn to point 2, 1, 3

You could waste lots time from 1 to 3 because it s not easy to see signs... usually they put a RED bag or clothes...

has been a amazing trip for us
