Local Photographer/photojournalist in Kashgar

Together with some friends I am planning a photo trip to Kashgar.

Can anyone recommend an English speaking local photographer/photo journalist that might want to join us or work as our guide during our stay of 2-3 days?

He or she must assist us in finding the best places for meeting local people, scenic spots as well as interesting markets. Also bridging the language barrier would help us a lot.

The person must have local knowledge, but can also be a foreigner like we are.

If you have no luck there try Ali Tash at Uighur tours. They are based in Kashgar and have a lot of local contacts.

Hi there:

It is bit hard to find someone who are photographer as well as a good english speaker in Xinjiang. I would suggest you to hire a local Uyghur guide who can assist you to find a local market, communicate local people for you guys, visit some interesting places. You can hire a car for your trips outside Kashgar, for touring in the city , you can use taxi but travelling to the village market and some interesting places outside the city, hiring car would be better.

Cheers!

Abdul Wahab. He runs a very reputable Kashgar-based agency and can set you up with whatever transportation infrastructure and English-speaking Uighur guide you need to accomplish your mission. He is fluent in English and responsive to telephone and email enquiries.

I strongly recommend that you use a Uighur guide in the Kashgar region. A foreigner or a Han will not be able to bridge the language gap and have access to the locals. And take lots of memory cards (film?)--a treasure trove of photo opportunities.

One tip: outside Kashgar city and maybe Tashkorgan town, outlets to recharge camera batteries and electronic gear are really tough to find. This includes Karakul Lake, camels in the desert, Shipton's Arch, etc I recommend taking along some charged-up spares, or a solar charger gizmo.
