Gengenbach Apartments - 2 choices - which one??????

Thx for all previous advise. As noted, we are in Gengenbach, Black Forest for 4 nights - Sept 02-05 and check out on the 6 th. We will have a rental car with us at all times.

We seem to have a choice of 2 apartments (with kitchenette) as follows:

This is EUR 37 / night = total EUR 148. Plus additional for Konus card? - still not clear. I am in touch with them to clarify this. I understand that if additional, it would be about EUR 2 per day per person = total EUR 16 for the stay.

We already have a tentative booking here (no deposit paid yet). I think this place is some 4km from the town centre.

This is EUR 45 / night = total EUR 180. Plus EUR 1/95 per day per person surtax = total EUR 195/60. Konus card is included.

This is available as of today (e-mail just received). This place is some 4km from the town centre.

Choice #2 is about EUR 32 more and all else looks the same - including the distance from town centre.

Can anybody advise o this? - which should we select? Is #2 better? - in terms of location etc? #2 is clear in terms of property etc - as they have their own website - but #1 is not as clear.

Ideally we would wish to be close to town centre and the place here we have also been advised to check out is :

I am in touch with them - but the only downside seems to be the 46 steps to the 3/floor apartment !

Any advice would be appreciated. All other apartments seem to be sold out.

When you fill in the form for the compulsory kurtax (visitor tax), you get the free Konus card. So, each apartment is the same wrt kurtax and Konus card.

"Ideally we would wish to be close to town centre"

Both places are in "side valleys" outside Gengenbach.

Kaelblehof is described by Bavaria Ben below. It seems you have booked a place very far from town.

Huberhof has its own website: http://www.huberhof-pfaffenbach.de It too is well away from the center.

You can find a map of any location by entering the address into Google.

"We already have a tentative booking here (no deposit paid yet)."

You may need to stick with the Kaelblehof.

German law says that bookings are not tentative except by agreement. In other words, whether you have paid a deposit or not is irrelevant. If you reserve, you are generally obligated to pay for the period booked unless the innkeeper has a policy to the contrary or unless you have already arranged for possible cancellation. It is a matter of your word, as Germans see it - you chose an establishment and agreed to pay, so you must.

It is not uncommon that tourists from abroad do not understand this when they book, so it is possible that the innkeeper will be lenient if you wish to cancel. But I have often heard of German innkeepers pursuing legal action against folks who book and then wish to change their minds, and they are supported by the law.

This place would be much closer in if your innkeeper turns out to be the lenient type: http://www.fewo-gengenbach.de/en.html

Even with the 46 steps (which my wife with the bum knee did not like!), dr. wink's fewo is WUNDERBAR.
