Takachiho-Kyo

Is the Gorge visitable in 1 day? I was not wanting to stay in Takuchiho, I was hoping to arrive in the morning, rent the boat, drift down the gorge, and then grab a bus back to Nobeoka or somewhere. is this possible? Also, if I am travelling solo, can I still rent a boat? do they have life-jackets available (I can't swim!). Thanks!

See the yellow seating pad. It is the life saver.

30min. 1,500yen, up to 3 people/boat, open around 8:30, may need to wait 1-2hrs depending on the season. And canceled if the water level rises, In addition, it is unclear if you can row to the water fall area due to injuries by rock falls in March this year.

If you still want to go, there are several buses/day from Nobeoka.to Takachiho(70min.)

and local buses to the gorge(10min.).

And only two from Kumamoto. The time table effective Aug.1, 2010.
