Langkawi during ramadan period

Hi, I will arrive in Langkawi on 22nd Aug which is during the ramadan period.

Need to check, if restaurant/shops & stalls will be operating as per normal?

And for operators organising trips for snorkeling/diving, will they be opened? I just look at East Marine webby, they are closed until 22nd Aug.

I am just afraid most of the businesses on the island will be closed during the week.

Thanks

Hi

Yes almost everything will be open as normal. You will have no problem with food or shopping.

Look out for the night markets during Ramadan - lots of great food that you can try. Best market is in Kuah Town on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.

Bob, as far as I know Ramadan ends abt August 19th depending on when the new moon is sighted.

Yeah, I think it is either 19th or 20th August.

Ramadan ends with the sighting of the new moon or by astronomical calculations if the new moon is not visible, obscured by clouds.

Therefore Hari Raya or Eid-ul-Fitr always falls on the 1st of the next Islamic month i.e Syawal.

And the islamic day actually begins after dusk/setting of the sun/ magrib period, usually varies around 650pm to around 715pm in West Malaysia, till the the next magrib ;not like the modern calender where the new day begins after 12 midnight :)

It is 18th August the last day of Ramadan. Muslims in Malaysia celebrate Eid on 19th Aug.

Since it is holiday week, the ferries will be full. You may need to wait a little longer.
