Binibeca - Things to do

Is a car essential to do anything other than beach and eat?? Any suggestions of other things to do?

Perhaps if you tell us exactly which part of Binibeca you are staying in someone who knows that area well might be able to help you further. Please also explain the sort of things you would like to be able to find to do (sightseeing, local culture or whatever) as it is not a busy place and because of that it caters for people that generally want to chill out independently, eat out, relax in the sun, take part in water sports etc..

Although there is usually a mini-train connection to Punta Prima to the east ( see http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g659968-i12624-k3881854-Public_transportation_from_Punta_Prima-Punta_Prima_Minorca_Balearic_Islands.html), the area is not that well served with public transport and " Binbeca " ( see http://www.islas.co.uk/binibeca_map.htm ) will includes addresses in Binibeca Nou, Binibeca Vell, Cala Torret etc. etc. so it depends if your accomodation is in the centre or further out whether or not you may feel a little isolated without a hire car.

Thank you so much for advice and will check out as you advise. Not sure of exact location, but stated as 5 mins from beach. We are a party of 5 "girls", late 60's to early 70's. 3 happy to "chill", two want more (possibly) culture to occupy their time.

Your friends will find plenty of heritage and cultural things see and visit in the areas in and around Mahon including a completely intact Napolonic period Fort ( La Mola) overlooking the entrance to Mahon harbour but you would need transport to get there. A hire car would definately enhance the holiday if you want to sightsee much and as the roads are very good and well marked if at least one of you can cope with driving on the wrong side of the road you should have a lovely time.

A visit to Fornells village in the North is well worth doing as is a trip to the highest point on the island (Monte Toro - the road up is steep but well maintained and not too scary). Cuitadella on the west coast is worth a visit too and you could in theory do that by taking a bus to Mahon and catchnig the express bus across from there.
