I have always liked Orient because their is a lot of daytime beach activity and things quiet down at night but you still have bars/restaurants open for dinner.

There are quite a few restaurants and bars in Orient Village. Safari Grill (French), Ti Chi (Asian), Le Piment (pizza, casual dining), Cote Plage (French),Little Italy (pasta) Across the street is Paris Texas, a Tex/Mex place w/bar, and Tap 5 for pizza and other light meals. Le Cadre serves mostly tapas. Additionally right outside Orient complex on the main road is Rancho Del Sol for dinner and drinks.

In the Orient complex is also Cafe Plantation, and L'Astroble at the Esmeralda resort. They are both very good and more upscale.

Several beach bars have parties at night during high season - Waikiki, Budha Bar at Bikini, Kontiki and Boo Boo Jams, Aloha for lunch. Check out Kpasa.com for music, happy hour, parties, etc. information.

There is an ATM located at the gas station in Grand Case on the main road down the hill from the police station as you are coming into town from Marigot and there is also one on the main road to Anse Marcel. Restaurants like tips to be paid in cash even when a credit card is used. It is a good idea to have some USD or Euro handy.

Some nice hotels steps off the beach are:

L'Hoste

Alamanda

Caraibes Beach Hotel

Caribbean Princess

We stay art club orient, but have not gone to orient village. Is orient village off the beach? Is it the far end of the beach opposite club O?

Should one walk or drive from club O?

thanks,

Rich

Click on the link for a panorama of Orient complements of Ed & Sandra.

Walking is preferred to driving, it's not far at all, maybe 5-10 minute walk along the beach.

Wow... thanks for that splendid link! Extraordinary!

Would you say, in your experience, that one could stay in this vicinity of St.Martin without the need of a car? Or, if one wanted to go out to, say, Marigot for a day to the market, would you recommend either a rental or taxi?

There are those who never leave the resort or hotel property, those who stay in the general area on foot and those who want to explore the island.

Yes, you could spend several days at Orient and enjoy the water and dine in the village and even taxi over to Grand Case if this is your preference. I believe you should do what you want to do, it is your vacation. Not everyone wants to explore the island, it takes time, energy and money and some folks just let sand gravity take over and find the beach or pool is enough for them to enjoy their time on the island. Some set aside one day for shopping and sight seeing and the rest of the time is spent at or near the resort.

You decide. It's your vacation.
