In many respects it is ideal for a stag weekend. The old town comes alive at the weekend, especially after midnight, with bars spilling out onto the streets and a really buzzing, lively and friendly atmosphere. There are many clubs scattered around the city, marina and beach, including outdoor ones, with some big name dj's on the decks.

Alicante is a major port and city, so it is not like Benidorm or other 'resorts' on the costas. It is a working city and very Spanish. If you are looking for all day English breakfasts with John Smiths on draught and 24hr Sky sports with karaoke the order of the day then it will disapoint. I think it feels a bit like a compact Barcelona.

Everything is an easy walk in the city. It has great restaurants, brilliant bars, good people, a fantastic beach and plenty of history.

Thanks thehappytourist, it's been difficult to find a great deal of information on Alicante... There doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the web re: Alicante's suitability for a stag do; every article I seem to have read points people to go for Benidorm.

We're not the sort of group that wants the Sky Sports, John Smiths and all day breakfasts, as you have suggested. Hence, why we are looking for a villa instead of a cheap hotel.

I'm really tempted to go to Alicante for this stag do, but I just don't want the evenings to be a dissappointment there. In my opinion, Benidorm sounds far too tacky and too much trouble, but unless I find any concrete evidence to suggest that Alicante has the nightlife, then I don't think I've got much choice but to go to Benidorm.

Are you aware of any webpages that list the bars/clubs that are in Alicante?

The old town and marina are the main hubs for nightlife but there are more 'local' type bars everywhere. You will probably find that you will spend a lot of time around the El Barrio/old town and I personally like a lot of the small bars around and on the streets off the Portal d'elx.

You're right that there is very little info on nightlife in the city but here are links to the few pages there are. They just tend to mention the most commercial place which are not really the best.

And a big thanks from me thehappytourist, heading in September, staying 4 nights in La Manga and then 6 in Alicante. This info is great.

Glad it helped oscars. The nightlife in Alicante is really good and diverse. I supposed you could kind of think of it like if Benidorm is the equivalent of Blackpool then Alicante would be Brighton.

Alcante's nightlife is very lively on Friday and Saturday nights - less lively in the summer but still lively enough and goes on all night until 8am and beyond.

The traditional Alicante nightlife starts late, around midnight but in the past few months a new Saturday fashion has begun for the 30 something crowd. This scene begins at around midday in the bars behind the market then continues on to the calle castaños and plaza San Cristobol area - it's strange for me to see Spanish people dancing in bars at 7/8pm......

If you really don't want a Benidorm style weekend then Alicante is a great place for a weekend - not nearly as cheap for drinks as Benidorm though, if that's an issue.

Hi, did you go to Alicante for the stag? I'm considering similar this year and also a villa. Any suggestions or advice would be great.
