Getting to Vimy

Just wondering if it's possible to walk from Arras train station to the Vimy memorial or rent bicycles. 10 km doesn't sound so far away.

The walk should take between 2 and 3 hours, and obviously the same going back, which takes up a big chunk of the day.

There is, I think, a bus organised by the Arras Tourist Office that goes directly to Vimy Ridge between April 3rd and September 26th. It leaves at 1400 hrs and returns at 1630 hrs.

You'd need to contact the Tourist Office to confirm this - http://www.ot-arras.fr/

You could also ask them about cycle hire.

The train goes to Vimy, for a few Euros, but you're still about 4 miles away from the Memorial and an hours walk.

travelling to Vimy in early June. Can you recommend ideas about staying in the area? is it worth it to spend a night in the Vimy area?

Bus no. 191 between Lens and Arras runs along the N17 and passes reasonably close to the site. However you would still have to walk several kilometres.

See tadao.fr/upload/…191_rentree_2010.pdf

The following gives details of the tour bus that ran from Arras last year and also information on taxis from the railway station at Arras.

The following is the document from the tourist office in Arras, but it doesn't mention the bus, so the best thing would be to e-mail them and ask

If it helps, we did Vimy as a day tour from Paris. High speed train from Paris Nord to Arras takes an hour, and you can catch a cab outside the train station for 25 euros each way. You can spend a few hours at Vimy, the visitor's centre will call you a return cab, and you can grab a meal near the train station before heading back to Paris.
