where to stay with a baby

Looking for advice on where to stay with a baby. Also, is the best way to get there to take a shuttle from Granada? Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. We are in Tamarindo and it is super windy. Will it be windy at the lake too?

Greetings Kira W:

It's been windy all over Nicaragua lately and that's fairly typical for this time of year. Feb/March especially are the worst times; the offshore wind in the Rivas area even causes such an upwelling that the surfers need (or wish they had) a wetsuit since it gets so cold! It definitely can get windy at Laguna de Apoyo but at least there's no sand whipping at your ankles and shins!

There are a lot of nice places that would be suitable to stay at with a baby. As far as general location/facilities/location/host, visitors like San Simian and Paraiso in that order. The hostel-type places like Naked Tiger probably aren't the family-friendly location you are looking for.

Posada La Abuela might work. They have cabins with their own outdoor seating areas, so you would have a chance to set up your own space. We were there last weekend and it was windy, but there are lots of sheltered places among the trees. Not the cheapest place, not the most expensive, and as I was drinking coffee a troop of monkeys passed right over our cabin. Very pleasant and competent staff.

Don't know about the other places mentioned, but we stayed at San Simion last summer and loved it. They had some of the best food we ate anywhere in Nicaragua. The cabanas are very clean and comfortable.

San Simian is outstanding. Great location, very tranquil, comfortable accommodations and good food. Daniel and the staff will take good care of you. Relax, enjoy the lake and wildlife.
