Is Port de Pollenca for me?

I like small, traditional villages or towns with relaxed bars and great restaurants. No Brits abroad stuff needed nor Irish/British pubs and international cuisine is also not required as I go to Spain to eat Spanish food.. My last four holidays were perfect and hit the mark - Corsica, Andros, a tiny Greek island, Fornells in Menorca and Frigiliana in Andalusia (beautiful whitewashed town in the mountain above Nerja). We are looking to return to Frig next year but before I book I thought I should at least check out a few other places that may tick the boxes as it's nice to try somewhere different. Someone suggested P de P and I must admit that I have often considered it as it used to be compared to Corsica. Is it charming, quaint, pretty and not brimming with high rise apts?

It might be too busy for you depending on which month. Also it is geared to families especially June-September. I know Frigiliana,Formells and Ajaccio,Corsica. Not as tranquil as the first two.

In direct answer to your questions:-

Quaint-not really but very little new development waterfront

Pretty-Pine Walk especially, but the rest not really but attractive nonetheless

Charming-yes

Hi-Rise-No apart from one hotel Pollensa Park which is a mile out of resort centre.

Great for foodies, wide choice of restaurants at all price levels. Some specialise in typical Mallorquin food although whether you like eg Mallorquinfrit (and other offal dishes) ,P'amboli and Tumbet is another issue. No good for party types/no loud night clubs although the Oz and Irish Bars party loud and late.Nice atmosphere.More expensive overall than resorts in the South West.No unpleasant types about.Decent sandy beaches but far from the best in Majorca.

I go every year (for 30 years).I still like it.I know Majorca fairly well and it is still my #1 choice.

Thanks for your quick reply. It sounds nice but a bit too busy I think. I am still leaning towards Frigiliana. I also read a few threads on this forum and it gave me more of an idea and I don't think it's for us.

Many thanks though!

Take a look at Soller and Port de Soller - may be more what you are aiming for

A sound description from WirralScouse. I've stayed in Nerja numerous times and have visited Frigiliana a few times during the day (not stayed there).

PdP is much smaller than Nerja and IMO much more attractive, but nowhere near as small as Frigiliana.

Whilst I'm not an expert on such matters (I've only travelled through them), I can't help feeling that there are some small villages inside Mallorca (rather than being on the coast) that would interest you. Mallorca really is worth visiting, with the inland areas and mountain areas providing superb scenary.

PS - just seen above post after typing mine. I feel Soller & PS would still be a bit busy. But if those are on the list, then also consider inland town of Pollenca.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. I have never been to Mallorca and would love to visit if I find the right place. I will take a further look.

Thanks all.

We have been visiting Pollensa for around 35 years mainly staying in villas, hotels and in and around Pollensa town although we have occasionally stayed in Puerto Pollensa would not say it fits your description of what you are looking for. Pollensa town has a few very small hotels (around10 rooms) and is more traditional than Puerto Pollensa, there are also townhouses and villas in the area. We have been fortunate and also visited many other places but something about Pollensa keeps drawing us back although we tend to go for a break now and out of the main season, there are a lot of very good restaurants and we like to walk along the pine walk in Puerto Pollensa and have a drink outside the Illa D'or hotel. Would definitely recommend Pollensa

I would suggest you look at towns/villages like Fornalutx, Santanyi or perhsps somewhere like Cala Figuera or Porto Petro.
