Just got back from Mismaloya. Didn't stay at the Barcelo so I can't help you out there. We did go horseback riding at the stables right across the street. You can talk to Vicki at the booth near the Barcelo entrance. If you decide to do this, Chavo is an EXCELLENT guide. Great trip up to El Eden and back!!

All rooms face out to the bay, the best rooms are the ones higher up above the palm trees:-) Maybe 3 and up...

Great things to do:

1.) Puerto Vallarta Zoo- it's within walking distance of Barcelo, be sure to buy at least one bag of food to feed the animals and you can also pay to hold baby big cats. A really cool zoo experience IMO.

2.) Take the bus into town and explore. The bus picks up right in front of the hotel the price is super cheap the drive is beautiful. Explore along the river, Rio Cuale and the Malecon is fun. Especially lively on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

What do you like to do? I can suggest more... But those are my top two things;-) Have a great time.

My husband has that problem... I don't remember any bug problems at the resort, but I'd bring the best repellant money can buy and wear it the whole time. We usually go in June or July and never had a huge problem. If you are going to go to the zoo wear LOTS of repellant or anywhere else that is more in the jungle... Like the canopy tours, botanical gardens.

The village of Mismaloya is interesting. There are 2 Tequila "factories" there, offering tours and free tastings but no production on site. Amazing how delicious tequila can be compared to the awful stuff many of us had in college!

Our favorite restaurant is Tony's.....3rd floor of his house with a unique menu. Food is delicious and any of the village children would be happy to escort you to the door.

The restaurants on the beach are safe and offer tables with palapas where you stick your toes in the sand while you have a cold cerveza. You can also hire one of the pangas to take you to one of the beaches further south or fishing or just a tour out to Los Arcos.

The hotel itself is beautifully groomed and comfortable. Breakfast is the best meal of the day. We haven't stayed there in recent years, but rather in a nearby condo.

The bus into town is 7.5 peso one way and worth it. Sunday is family day and it is fun to stroll the Malecon to see the families out enjoying themselves. Not ot miss on the Malecon is the Cheeky Monkey for $1 margaritas or beer.

Enjoy!

Sunday is a GREAT day to go to the Malecon. It is a family day and there will be lots of people out and lots going on. In the evenings they have shows on the south end of the Malecon that are great for kids. I'm not sure if the tequila factory in Mismaloya is open on Sunday but I would think the hotel would know... Or it is just a short walk. But I definately recommend going to the Malecon on a Saturday or Sunday. It will be very lively and fun. Have fun!
