Tauck Bridges Danube River Cruise-Multigenerational

My husband, 12 year old b/g twins and my 80 year old parents are considering the Tauck Bridges Danube River cruise beginning in Budapest mid-summer. There are very few reviews about this trip online. I have read one excellent travel journal type review on this forum but it doesn't cover the whole trip and ends after the second cruise day (it seemed). My questions to those of you who have been on this Bridges trip or one very similar are:

1) Can a family of 4 fit into the Category 7 cabin? There is a pull out couch and we plan to bring an airbed but are wondering if a twin airbed will fit too. Not that we plan to spend much time there.

2) Is it picturesque and pretty? I have read a few reviews that say the Danube is like a freeway with too much traffic and river boats 'stacked up'. Would love to hear your experience of cruising on the Danube in general.

3) Are there many very young kids on board? Say under 8 (the recommended age for the cruise). One review complained of a lot of noisy running around and ill behaved kids, but this was one review only, so there is no way to know if it is a generalized problem or not.

4) What was your favorite thing on the Tauck itinerary and your favorite find not on their itinerary?

5) Biggest 'pro' and 'con' of your trip.

It's an expensive trip and one that we probably won't be able to repeat with our older parents so I want to make sure it lives up to our expectations. Thank you for any help you can offer!!

Welcome..........The actual Cruises Forum here on TripAdvisor has had lots of Q and A about Danube River cruises, incl Tauck Cruises on the Danube.

I would repost there - l found multiple threads about your topic using the Search function— Recommend you use the “Search” tab on that forum to find all the other threads about the Tauck Danube cruises for much info... On these forums its a matter of knowing where to look. Family travel is general travel with kids topics forum, not much specifc on cruises, cabin sizes , Cabin categories, etc at all

Happy planning 😊

We have sailed the Danube during the Christmas Markets. We have sailed the Rhine river twice and sailed on a cruise last year with Tauck on the Rhine.

My comments:

We enjoyed both, but the Rhine River offers more to see and more enjoyable, to us. The ports are far more interesting and welcoming.

I know Tauck Bridges offers families of all ages, but I cannot imagine 4 people staying in one cabin, with 1 bathroom. Boats that sail the rivers are much more compact that ocean cruises. There are many locks along the way, and the boats have to fit in them and use the deepest part of the river for sailing.

Truck does a excellent job and offers many activities, including free time for your own interests. What they do, they do well.

To answer you honestly, I do not know if the ship accommodates that many in a cabin. I would not consider it at all.

Just remembered, Tauck has its own forum. You can read it, but to participate, you will need to sign in.

The Danube is very scenic and less industrial than the Rhine. Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to visit a river cruise specialist/travel agent in your area and explore all the options that would fit your family? If you want some ideas of where to find one just say so.

Tauck is a wonderful company however, with the young kids along there may be some better options. For example if you choose Uniworld at about the same price then you will have a luxury experience and there are Family dates in the summer when there are special discounts, special onboard activities and even included fun family shore ex. Additional personnel are onboard to keep everything moving along yet under control.

Oh and yes, you will need three cabins however for kids on the special cruise dates that I mentioned above Uniworld used to have kids sail at 50% discount as the second person in the cabin with an adult. Have the travel agent set up the names on the reservations to gain the maximum discount and then arrange the sleeping plan once you get onboard.

Our last Rhine cruise, we sailed from Cologne to Basel. The industrial part of the Rhine is between Amsterdam and Cologne.

We went on this trip this past July. It was amazing! There are so many activities for the children. I would say the average age of the kids on our cruise was 11. I am not sure how many people they will allow in a cabin. We had 3 adults in a room with a bed

and a pull out couch. This trip is definitely worth the money!
