Many people ask for suggestions on what to include in a southern USA road trip. Travel in the summer months will be hot and humid. Travel along the coast from August-November may encounter hurricanes. There is a risk of snow in the higher elevations of the mountains in the winter months.

Georgia-
Atlanta- ML King historic site, GA Aquarium, World of Coke, Centennial Olympic Park, CNN, Piedmont Park, Atlanta History Center, Atlanta Botanical Garden and Stone Mountain.
Warm Springs- FDR's Little White House.
Savannah- Riverfront, historic squares and cemeteries, old homes, Tybee Island.
Golden Isles- Sea Island, St. Simons, Jekyll Island- beach, history, golf.
Cumberland Island- National seashore, secluded, wild horses.
Okefenokee Swamp
Civil War sites- Chicamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, Andersonville.
Mountain areas- Blue Ridge, Brasstown Bald, Dillard, Clayton, and Helen.
South Carolina-
Charleston- Market Square, historic homes and plantations, museums, Ft. Sumter.
Beaches- Pawley's Island, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and many others.
North Carolina-
Asheville- Biltmore House
Beaches- Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach- also Outer Banks.
Tennessee-
Nashville- Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, Music Row, and The Hermitage.
Memphis- Beale Street, jazz, Graceland, Civil Rights museum and Mississippi River.
Civil War sites- Shiloh and many others near Nashville.
Alabama-
Birmingham- Civil Rights
Montgomery- Civil Rights
Mobile- Bellingrath Gardens, and USS Alabama
Beaches- Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Mississippi-
Clarksdale- blues music
Vicksburg- Civil war, Mississippi river, and museums.
Natchez- historic plantations
Beaches- Gulfport and Biloxi.
Louisiana-
New Orleans- jazz, The French Quarter, and swamp tours.
