Do the Canyons (Vegas) in July with a small camper van

Hello!

I would like to have your opinion about the idea of doing few national parks (Bryce Canyons, Antelope Trail etc) in JULY with a small camper van (kind a dodge caravan camper). We will have about 5-6 days in Canyons, driving from Las Vegas.

We were thinking about the small camper because it will definitely save us time instead of stopping at hostels.

Our main worry it's the weather (too hot to sleep in a car during night?) and showers.

Thank you!

We have family with a small RV in Las Vegas now. It was 104 today and RV was at 85. Difficult to sleep. They are heading to Grand Canyon and then to mountains for cooler temps.

I agree, the bigger challenge is Campgrounds at National Parks. Check if there is any availability at reserveable Campgrounds.

ReserveAmerica.com

Recreation.gov

start reading about first-come, first-served (FCFS) availabilty at National Parks. About shower availability. Maybe stay at a KOA (or other RV Park /Campground) with showers the night before arriving at a fcfs Campground. There are some really good, recent threads on the Utah forum about camping/RV without reservations.

Zion, South Campground is reservable 2 weeks prior, a good option.

Bryce- has FCFS Campground

Page- hot! (Skip?).

Where are you from?

Yes, overnight temps will be an issue as those small campers have no air con you can use when the engine is not running. However, you still need camp site reservations and I don't see how you can save time over a car. Many roads in that area are not safe to drive after dark because of wildlife on the roads. Even with a car and motels, you are very, very late to book to find availability anywhere.

Please lay out your trip plan, if you have one so we can see if driving distances are viable, too.

If you go looking for Air Conditioned places all the time that trip is not a good idea. I did that area in the heat of summer on a motorcycle and a tent; never went near A/C. So what kind of heat your body can take makes a big difference.
