Train travel from Michigan to Grand Canyon

Is Amtrak the only train available nowadays? My daughter would like to make this trip on an "old fashioned" train and sleep on it?

Yes, Amtrak is our national train service since 1973. There are no others. Your daughter would take train #351 (The Wolverine) from either Ann Arbor or Jackson into Chicago, arriving around noon. Go to Amtrak.com and download the Michigan Services train schedule. From Chicago she would take the Soutwest Chief at 2:45 to either Winslow or Flagstaff Arizona download the Southwest Chief Schedule. There are connections to the Grand Canyon from there. The least expensive way to traavel, of course, is by Chair Car (coach). A roomette would be preferable on a long distance train. The cost of the roomette includes all meals in the diner. The schedule for train 3&4 (Southwest Chief) has the connecting services to the Grand Canyon listed on the schedule.
