New Delta / Starwood Program

Delta and Starwood have launched a unique new program called Crossover Rewards, which offers reciprocal benefits in both programs.

This means that starting March 1, Delta Diamond and Platinum Medallions (who are not already elite with Starwood) will get elite level benefits in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program, including 4 pm checkout, free internet, and one SkyMile per dollar spent on room rate in addition to Starpoints.

It also means that elite level SPG members will have access to already crowded priority check in and boarding lines. They will also get one free check bag.

Pretty soon there is only going to be a couple people per flight that can't board early. On the plus side, most hotel elite people are already airline elite.

The fact that most hotel elites are already airline elites is what I think makes this a great idea. From Starwood's perspective, who better to target as a new customer than people who already have a proven need to travel, like the airline's current elite customers. It's likely that many of Delta's current elite members are already elite with other hotel chains, and as a result, may not easily switch to give some business to Starwood. If you grant them some status benefits, then you just might pry them away from the competition.

Agreed Geo.

In the Atlanta airport the other day, a fellow Medallion flyer commented that local full service car wash's now give Delta early boarding passes with a gas fill up.
