Solo Travel Ideas for Thanksgiving

I would love any ideas for travel for a single male (40) to travel over the Thanksgiving week. I have about 6 days and would prefer a warm weather destination where there are other friendly solo travelers.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!

It would help to know a little more about your tastes but here are a couple of ideas:

Last November I spent a week on Provodenciales in Turks & Caicos. The weather was warm and pleasant and the island interesting. I wasn't looking to be very social so I stayed at the Sands which was quiet and perfect for me. However, there is a Club Med on Grace Bay which I understand is not luxurious, but has lots of activities, a good mix of singles, couples and mix of friends and seems top have been enjoyed by most of the people who go there.

Try a search for Club Med on the Provo Forum

I spent Thanksgiving itself on Ambergris Caye in Belize, staying at Xanadu, which is a very pretty and a shortish walk into the town (San Pedro)along the beach. Although If you want to meet lots of people a hotel with a bar and/or restaurant might suit you better.

I went to Wild Mango for Thanksgiving dinner. It was one of the best I have ever had.

IME, people are friendly in Belize and there are lots of beach front bars to sit with something delicious in your hand, your feet up, enjoying the view and sharing a few thoughts..

On the other hand, Xanadu (and most of the resorts in Belize) books guests on various tours for snorkelling, diving and sightseeing (the Mayan Temples are amazing) and you would meet people that way. There are also a bit more specialist pleasures in that there is a Garifuna drumming school in Hopkins.

Belize is located in Central America, but is Carribean by culture. It was an English colony, so English is the main language.

The beaches in Belize are not as good as the beaches on Provo (very few places are) but has the advantage in more non beach things to see and do.

If you want to stay in the States, the west coast of Florida has some great barrier islands that will still be warm in November. I particularly like Sanibel/Caprtiva where the sunsets are applauded in the local hangouts. Try the Mucky Duck for a pub with good food and a great view.

Happy Thanksgiving.

If you're looking for a bargain-type destination with lots of things available to do - where you can choose to be an introvert or extrovert - I'd consider Cancun.
