Best Solo Travel Tour Company

Hi - I’m looking for recommendations for a solo travel tour company. My instagram feed is filled with options such as EF Go Ahead Tours, but looking for some first hand experience on them and their competitors that cater to solo travelers. Here’s a little more about what I’m looking for:

- Want a group travel experience that is primarily people traveling solo.

- Open to destinations in Europe or North America.

- Would like a tour with lots of sight seeing and walking. I want to be active (not sitting on a bus)!

- I’d like the average age to be around 50-60. So not companies that cater to 20-30-somethings or to retirees.

- Might consider a river boat cruise company if no single supplement, but no ocean liner cruises.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Welcome to the TA Solo Travel forum. I think planning your own river boat cruise is a great idea. That way you could control the experience more. Join day tours at different stops. Be part of a group on the boat but also independent if you wanted to be.

Even if you find a tour company you like, there would never be a guarantee everyone would be 50-60 years old, no one who is retired, and mostly single people -lol-

Wish you luck in your research and hope others will be along soon with some good ideas. suze

You could try ‘Just You’. They’re well established here in the U.K. which is where their tours start. I generally arrange my own travel but did consider one of their holidays as I’d used other companies in the group.

Welcome

Some unsolicited hints...take or leave.

Depending on where in "europe" you want to go, you can easly do some or all it yourself.

You can do your own flights , trains snd lodging and then pickup tours at stops if you want.

The countries/cities ive been to in "europe" have been easy to move about by subway. If theirs isnt so extensive then you can do more bus, orwalking or uber or taxi.

And if you can plan it, using the train systen can make moving aroud alot easire and more efficient within reason.

But i found you realky dont NEED a tour unless its what you want, for whatever reason.

I started my solo travels bsck in 2012 by getting some travel book, reading them and relevant parts and then planning amd going. The 1st too more time for evrything, but other trops took less.

Still reading and planning and going too. Have another trip for sept unless some family issues stop me.

Good luck

badgerma1: This forum was set up primarily for a place for solo and independent travelers to share ideas on travel planning. It's more about planning to travel alone and less about traveling in groups, especially escorted tour groups, as noted in the forum FAQ.

Saying that, I'm aware that many of the escorted and planned group agencies have threads posted in the Bargain Travel, Holiday Travel, and Senior Travel forums. Many firsthand comments there. Similarly, I can say that I see a lot of posts on Reddit, as well. In addition, be sure to look at Facebook - because many of those agencies post there, and also Google reviews, too. Those places are really the best places to seek firsthand accounts from prior travelers. Good Luck.

BTW: If you are interested in planning solo independent travel for your places, please share. I am one of those people who plans my own independent travel, but might join a local tour once I am in the place I want to see.

Road Scholars!

They're a 50+ tour company that organized their tours by activity level as well as location. They're somewhat on the expensive side, but their itineraries look so so very interesting!

I haven't been myself what with their age requirement and all but it seems legit at least. So something to look further into, maybe

Please check out holiday companies throughly.

I'm not sure what the system is in the US but here I can look up where their offices are and how big on google - I can check their financial status and employees on the gov.uk companies house.

You;d be surprised how many are one man bands operatiing, in one case, from a caravan in a field.

Do not be pulled in by a fancy website. Anyone can make one.

Road Scholars is a good suggestion. They have a fine reputation (used to be Elderhostel). They have various lengths and interest groups. I have a friend who travel with them often but it was awhile ago. But I am sure there would be some "retired" people on their tours, which the OP doesn't want.

I think that's the challenge of this inquiry is how specific it is... a tour company that is only for single people and only in their 50s to 60s. That's a pretty narrow group.

What about flipping the way you look at the options... research walking tours (regardless of the demographic), things like food/cooking/wine tours or bike tours, photography tours, might get closer to what you are seeking than the mainstream big bus "7 cities in 7 days in Europe" kind of options.
