Best from Boston to Orlando - is AirTran reliable?

I've never heard of AirTran before, but they seem to be the cheapest I've seen. Just $114 each way in mid-March.

What are people's opinions on this airline or on other discount ways to get from Boston (or Providence, Manchester, Portland) to Orlando.

Thanks!

Yes they are reliable and are growing as a major airline. They aren't as big as the main airlines like American, United, or Delta, but are just as big as Frontier and other low cost carriers. Air Tran is a low cost carrier like Southwest Airlines. Air Tran hubs out of Atlanta providing much competition to Delta. They fly the 717 and the 737 aircraft. Did you try Southwest Airlines? They operate a nonstop flight from both Providence and Manchester to Orlando. They are usually the best value for the money nonstop and oneway and could have a flight as low as $80. Southwest is one of the larger domestic carriers. I am guessing Southwest will have a great deal. The price you got with Air Tran is very low though, so if you find nothing else, jump on it.

I would also suggest you try Southwest Airlines. They are advertising specials on their website. You can get some great deals with Southwest but you have to act ASAP if you see s flight you like.

We flew SW from Providence to Orlando last year and had 2 great flights. It's a no frill airlines but who cares if the price is right!

Air Tran is probably ok also. I don't have any experience w/ them. As the other posted noted, I would grab the best deal!

Spirit Airlines also flies to Orlando and they have had some great bargains. We just booked flights to Myrtle Beach from Boston for $32.00 one way! You can also search for the day b4 and day after the date you put in.

Air Tran is great, more so if you have a direct flight and don't have to connect in Atlanta.

Worldvoyager,

Don't you mean they are great as long as you sit in your seat with your seat belt buckled as opposed to crawling under your seat for takeoff?

No, I mean as long as you can control them, which in this case means being able to make them do what the crew needs them to do, whatever that is.

Whatever that was, was sit in their seat, not sit in their seat and shut up.

Hasn't this issue been beaten to death on this forum?
