if you fly American Airlines to Sanfrancisco with stopover at Jfk do you have to re check your baggage at Jfk to ongoing flight or id this done for you by airline.

If it's all on the one ticket then no, it should just be checked straight through

Thanks, yes all booked as one flight but travel agent has told us that you have to recheck luggage at Jfk but nearly everybody I have spoken to says we should not have to, so a bit confused.

Another travel agent who has no idea, you'll pre clear US Immigration & Customs before departing Dublin and arrive as a domestic arrival in JFK where your bags will automatically be sent to the flight to SFO, you wont even see them.

Agree that you wont see your bags until SFO. Did you also look at the Aer Lingus nonstop 10 hr flight to Sfo.
