Best is subjective.

Very little difference in economy class. It's usually a matter of personal preferences, value vs cost, stopover, duration. I've often found BA, EK and EY are usually very competitively priced on this route.

Personally, I would pick Singapore. Be sure to sign up for the flyer program, no matter which airline you decide on.

I'm also going to suggest Etihad to Dubai and then Virgin to Sydney because Virgin have premium economy seating that is a 40 seat cabin, extra leg room and recline.

I'd look at:

1. Cost

2. Travel time and number of stops.

3. Stopover destination (if you want to have a stopover on the way)

3. Ff programs last. Singapore airlines Krisflyer is the worst of the lot for infrequent flyers.

In terms of (dis)comfort all economy seating is about the same.

We flew to sydney from heathrow with Singapore. What we found was service very mixed. Our first leg from heathrow was excellent. Staff attention superb. We had an overnight flight and I can usually grab a few hours sleep when travelling and even when lights dimmed for sleep every time I opened my eyes an attendant was close by with tray with water or juice. The toilets were very clean, I hate dirty airplane toilets with dribbles and wet floors but these were checked constantly and re supplied with toothbrushes etc. But this year we are going with emirates as they fly from glasgow. If we were closer to London I would consider BA who fly direct.

Hi. One option I've used a few times is Qantas and the flagship QF1 route. It transits through Dubai, but because you simply disembark and re-embark the same aircraft, you don't have to worry about missing your connection, and the total journey time is kept to a minimum. This route uses the A380. The entertainment is good, and the food reasonable, with a good selection of Aussie wines.

Abs :)
