Carry-on size limits

My husband and I will be flying United this fall from SFO to Europe and I am trying to figure out if we can bring our small duffles onboard as carry-on. One duffle is a small Nike 20x11x11 and the other is a Vera Bradley Weekender bag 18 1/2x12 1/2x8. I was also wanting to bring my Large Longchamp tote as my purse (have never had a problem in the past, it fits under seat, but...) and dimensions on that are 11.25Lx7.5Wx11.75H. Wondering if that would now be considered a carry-on instead of a personal item (i.e. purse). Thanks for any advice.

I presume you've checked the United website, because it's all clear on there.

Adiroy, the OP is flying United and that is not on the list you gave as it not a European carrier.

I have. Problem is that the carry-on measurements are for a wheeled bag (suitcase) and not a duffle. Any United, Delta, American employees out there who can help clarify?

Thanks, bu I have checked this page. Still, the question is how would one figure a duffle bag?

Aloha,

I thought your question was regarding using your purse as a personal item.

"Personal item

The maximum dimensions for your personal item, such as a shoulder bag, backpack, laptop bag or other small item, are 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm)."

Hi

In Europe generally linear measurements are not applicable, just because your bag maybe 5cm short does not mean it can be 5cm wider.
