Traveling to cabo but passport expires 6 day after we return

We are traveling to Cabo San Lucas next friday out of Los Angeles, We leave on Aug 1st, 2014 and return Aug 4th, 2014 however one person in our group her passport expires Aug 10th, 2014 will she be ok or does the 6 month validity come into play? it is too late for her to expedite a new passport. She is worried she wont be able to fly down there or if she does will they deny entry?

with valid tickets you can get a same day or next day passport. You pay more but it can be done. There is an issue with passports -- was on the news today -- but check with the LA Passport office

did you check with the mexican consulate ? Would it not be better to get the official answer than from a bunch of strangers on a travel forum

Not that google can get you the most accurate answer but this answer sounds fair but NOT official

mexperience.com/guide/essentials/mexico-entr…

Passport Validity

The maximum period of time that a visitor may stay in Mexico without a formal visa is six months. Therefore your passport, regardless of country of origin, should be valid for a minimum period of six months, however long you intend to stay to avoid any potential problems at the port of entry.

Immigration authorities at the port of entry may allow or deny entry of any person into Mexico. If you have a passport that is valid for less than six months and you intend to stay in Mexico for a short period of time—perhaps a vacation—the Immigration Officer might allow you entry.

Notwithstanding this, we recommend that you and your family members hold passports valid for at least six months from the date you plan to enter Mexico.

Yes i emailed the mexican embassy in washington DC telling them we are going on vacation for 4 days in cabo and my friends passport expires 6 days after we return home, will she be ok or is there a 6 month passport validity requirement.

Their response was "When you are traveling to Mexico you will need a valid passport to enter and exit the country.

Thank you,"

To me that sounds like she will be ok but we are still a bit hesitant.

It's also been pointed out on these forums that sometimes it isn't the destination country that has the 6-month requirement, it's the airline. So you better find out what their policy is, too.
