Can I carry DSLR as carry on in Singapore airlines?

I am flying to Singapore next month. I shall be carrying my DSLR- canon 550D along with three lenses in a well cushioned camera bag.

Do they check the weight of carry ons?

They check the weight - but not always.

It would rather depend on how many other pieces of carry on luggage you have and how big/heavy they are.

I have had my carry on luggage weighed by SQ a few times and they have been rather strict with their weight limits. I once had to move something from my carry on to my handbag (which oddly they didn't weigh) because my carry on weighed 7.2 kg rather than the maximum 7kg.

I tend to use my camera bag as my carry-on. I will strip out the contents of the pockets that can go in checked luggage and fill them with the necessities for the flight. I have found that works quite well. THat way I don't have to get into the carry-on vs personal item discussion.

Not familiar with Singapore or its policies, I'm afraid.

Read the policy here:

singaporeair.com/en_UK/…

In general you can carry a camera separately as long as it is not as big as a cabin baggage allowed. I have carried a camera bag with a DSLR and 2 viewfinder digital cameras plus chargers/cables etc inside, in addition to my backpack, on board SQ flights out of Singapore. The level of checks may vary in each country though.

A camera bag shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't carry a huge case of sorts.

I would never put a DSLR or its lenses into checked luggage.
