Can you freely travel between terminals in Heathrow. Im flying out of t3 but would like to go to t5 to pass some time as I have 5 1/2 hours to pass? Is this possible ?

No, it's not. You are only allowed to a certain terminal if you have a flight departing from there.

You can stay landslide in T5 if you really want to, but there's not really much point

You can go to T5 landside (as #2 mentioned), but not airside after security. Whether you find T5 interesting enough to warrant the trip is something for you to decide. Look at the T5 map here for shops and restaurants. Remember you will only have access to check-in areas before security and the arrival hall.

By the way, you will also have to make sure you have the proper visa/passport that allows you to enter the UK to get out of T3 airside.
