Check-in baggage from two different airports..

I am travelling from Kolkata to San Francisco via Hong Kong on Cathy Pacific. I am allowed two pieces of checked-in bags. I also have a 18 hr layover in Hong Kong. I was planning to check-in 1 bag at Kolkata and book it through to San Francisco. I was planning to go into Hong Kong during the layover, buy a suitcase and then check it in from Hong Kong through to San Francisco. Will that be allowed by the airline (Cathay Pacific ) ?

thanks in advance for any responses.

You really have to check directly with Cathay Pacific. Normally I wouldn't see a problem here, but I don't know how Cathay handles things like that.

Hi,

Cathay allows this, however, remember that your added piece(s) DO count against your total baggage limit -- so IF, for example, your allowance is 1pc at 23kg max, and you INITIALLY checked-in ONE piece at the origin point; THEN at the CONNECTION point you check-in ONE more bag (at or less than 23kg), you'd be liable for the excess baggage changes for that 1 additonal piece..

Oversized and/or overweight charges also apply to any added baggage -- and that's in addition to excess charge -- if that applies.

Travel Safe,
