Some airlines I've been on lately accept only credit cards.

As mentioned above, cash is becoming a thing of the past, on most airlines. They have gone to CC (some debit cards) only. Same for many airline lounges. The only thing accepted at UA Lounges is CC, except for cash for gratuities. Probably a "sign of the times."

Trans Tasman flights on Virgin have prices in both AUD and NZD listed on the menu. You can pay in either currency. They also accept (prefer) credit cards.
