First flgt. on codeshare airline delayed & miss connect flgt

We are flying from Toronto to Paris. First we are flying on AA from Toronto to JFK on codeshare flight with BA connecting flight departing from JFK to Paris. We booked on British Airline website. What to do when first flight is delayed and there is a chance we will miss connecting flight in JFK?Who is responsible for getting us on a flight to Paris, AA or BA? Do we try to get on another flight when we are in Toronto at the AA desk or BA desk when we get to JFK?

With whom is your flight from JFK to Paris??

How much time do you have between the flights that makes you worry about it??

You can't do anything until your flight is actually late. Worrying about it won't help much.

Which ever airline you are scheduled with on the JFK to Paris leg is the one you'd have to deal with to get you onto their next available flight(which could easily be the next day.)

If the inbound (AA) flight is delayed and causes a misconnect, then it's American who would rebook onto a later fight. At that point AA is in control of the ticket, and it would be under airport control.

I wouldn't worry too much though as (a) BA and AA are joint venture partners and work closely together, and (b) OneWorld has an customer support center at JFK specifically to monitor tight connections, help out passengers and rebook as soon as possible. If you did miss the flight, in all likelihood you'd be rebooked before you knew it, and the new ticket would be available from any AA or BA service desk.

....wasn't worrying about it, just wanted to know the procedures we would take....never booked with codeshare airlines before. But thanks for taking the time to answer.

And thank you for the useful information, US Business Traveller

I would double check who you're flying with from JFK to CDG. If it's a non-stop flight, it's highly possible you're also on a BA codeshare operated by AA.

^^^^ or OpenSkies to Orly.

[OpenSkies is a subsidiary of BA]

Thank you for the further information. Our connecting flight from JFK to Orly, Paris, is direct and with Open Skies. US Business Traveller suggested that if there was a delay on our first flight that I could go to the AA or BA desk to inquire about a new ticket that could be available.

I was wondering is that at the AA desk in Terminal 8 when we arrive in JFK? Or would we take the airtrain to the BA desk at Terminal 7 where we would eventually depart to Orly?

I think you would actually go to the customer service counter of whatever airline you're flying to CDG if you get to JFK and find you've missed your connection. Since you're flying Open Skies, if you see your flight has left, go to the Open Skies customer service counter, which may be combined with BA's. You could always call BA in advance to ask about counter locations, etc..
