Has anyone used MH insure when booking flights?

We are about to book flights with Malaysia Airlines and they have MHinsure on their site.

Does anyone have any experience with MHinsure? Also will they insure mother who is 82 years old?

If this is insurance sold by Malaysia Airlines (and it looks like it) then I'd be very cautious. In fact I'd say no. I wouldn't buy any travel insurance offered by the airline you're insuring against.

If I were you I'd research independent travel insurance. Read the coverage and T+Cs very carefully. And look for a policy that covers what you NEED. Your mother may need more (or less) coverage based on her age and condition than a "click here, kerchinggg" policy would give.

Remember travel insurance should cover (a) pre trip issues, (b) during trip issues, (c) airline operational issues such as delays, and (d) medical and emergency coverage.

In all my flights with MAS I never took out their own insurance, and really would not do so for the same reasons given above.

Check policy's very carefully for cover for your mother and use an insurer who will specifically cover her needs when traveling as an older traveler

I just book my flights on MH on malaysianairlines.com and the MHInsure charges were tagged on automatically. I could not figure out how to remove it during the booking. After purchasing the tickets, I received an email about MHInsure. It says that it is only for citizens of Malaysia, and that I needed to call a phone number in Malaysia to cancel it immediately if I am not a Malaysian. I called the number and I was told to call back during business hours in Malaysia.

Seriously, malaysianairlines.com should not have included the MHInsure during my booking since the website had asked for our citizenship. Also, it should make it possible for me to remove the insurance during booking.

Yes...just got my claim and it took such a long time dealing with roonies...so rubbish. It was my first claim and a straight forward one. At one stage I requested to speak with their Head of Claims and I was told I couldn't. When asked for his or her name? the person replied "CANNOT GIVE OUT" WHAT? a secret society company. What a crap organisation...Wake Up!!!! Be transparent!

Insure somewhere else...claims department will stress you out when you have a straight forward simple claims.

Then I was asked if I have the right to live in Malaysia..."WHAT? ARE YOU AN INSURANCE COMPANY OR IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT?" I asked for the reason why this question was raised...this idiot came back and said we would like to check if you are entitled to buy this policy..."WHAT? I Said" this policy can be bought by anyone including idiots like yourself. Your MAS insurance application form stated this "Who can purchase an MHinsure policy? The policy is available to any citizen or resident of Malaysia whose journey starts in Malaysia."

Now you see how frustrating when you buy a policy from an insurance company where you have to deal with idiots when you need to make a simple claim.
