Is 50 minutes between flights enough time?

A friend and I will be traveling from Sydney to Manila in January. We have a connecting flight from Manila to Boracay which only gives us 50 minutes from the landing time of our SYD - MNL flight, to out departing flight out of Manila to Boracay.

Will 50 minutes be sufficient? Because I believe we'd have to go through customs, collect our luggage and then recheck in to our Boracay flight.

**Is the airport in Manila easy to navigate around/quite small?

Which airlines? Read their T&Cs to see what they state for latest check in time. Are you flying on one ticket, in which case your luggage will go straight through and the connecting time "should" have been taken into account. If the flights are on separate tickets 50 minutes seems unlikely to be enough if you have to clear Immigration, collect luggage and check in for next flight, especially if your first flight is delayed.

Depending on your choice of airline and which terminal it lands. The airport has 4 terminals and transfer seems to require taking taxi.

Qantas has a good guide on the airport.

Hi,

Manila is, unfortunately, a difficult airport to make inter-terminal connection..

The terminals are essentially all seperate and it is not possible to walk between them.. Part of the problem of what dove this is the issues they've had in the long and often delayed airport expression process..

There are ransport options between terminals but as noted above what you'll find that many passengers elect to take a regular taxi --- it's not that the distance is all that far; its not.. Its more to do with the fact that there's not a lot of airport or airline provided transfer options and the terminals are somewhat spread out around the overall airport property and not walkable..

50 minutes is absolutely not enough. As you said, you have to clear immigration at Manila and collect your bags. On a good day with all flights on time, you might accomplish this within 30 minutes. Even if your flight to Boracay departs from the same terminal, you will not have enough time to check-in for the new flight. Even if your booking is exclusively with Philippine Airlines, I don't think they have express transfer facilities that you see in other hub airports.

The connection times at Manila are thus (and this is based upon the booking being on one ticket - add at least an extra hour if you have separate tickets) :

So essentially, even if you have a connection with Philippine Airlines within Terminal 2, the minimum needed is 60 minutes (and even this is very tight from my own experiences at Manila).

If you have made this booking on one ticket, you need to speak to whomever you booked it with to arrange a different connection.

If you have booked separate tickets, you need to change your Manila - Boracay flight (or buy new one). There are dozens of daily flights between Manila - Kalibo / Caticlan, so it should hopefully not be too difficult or expensive to arrange a new flight.

There are 4 separate terminals in Manila - you cannot walk between them. Your return flights from Boracay need a long transit time also as it is not uncommon for flights to be delayed or cancelled from Caticlan (Boracay) airport.
