Advocacy needed to exchange Egypt tickets

Can someone suggest a way to convince Delta to have mercy and allow us to change our Egypt tickets for safer Morocco? We had planned to go with grandchild next march, and under current conditions feel we cannot responsibly do it. Delta won't consider waiving fees(which will amount to $1800) until right before scheduled departure, then too late to make other plans. Thanks

Agree with usbt, it's just too early for anyone to be thinking seven months ahead. The travel advice will only be relevant in the days leading up to the trip.

However if the op is going to the red sea, it might never come, right now they are advising people not to leave their hotels, but they have not advised against travel there. The issue for tourists in these areas is not just about immediate safety or the fact they can't leave the hotel, it's also about the fact supplies can't get through to the hotels, Ports Ie suez, and warehouses may be blocked, meaning resorts will probably start running low and out of stuff ie foods, drinks, fuel for boats and cars, the longer this goes on. The currency will devalue heavily, causing a lot of concern amongst staff, and local staff will be wanting to go back to help protect their families if they come from areas where there is unrest.

The knock on effect to the tourist areas is not simply about safety, it's about after a short period, the resorts struggle to operate as normal.

Morocco may not be quiet by the time you plan to travel. Why not look at a more stable region in another part of the world ?

There are Egyptian tour guides on the Egyptian forum telling tourists not to come RIGHT NOW! When people whose livelihood depends on tourism tell you to stay away, I think you should listen.

Of course, we are still aways off from March and it is more than understandable that no airline will eat fees at this point of time.

If the Cairo airport were closed, the airline involved in that leg would also likely have to make alternate arrangements or refund. But, of course, any and all travel plans involve some risks. Travel insurance would seem wise. How many times do airports completely close and for how long?

I suspect the op is not coming back, I hope she does, to say what her decision is, as others will be in the same situation.

I think also this thread might help others who are. One of the key things to remember about these countries is there is some really cheap deals going for a reason, and it's not a good reason, and people need to research throughly before making that decision.
